Cake Stalking. It’s A Thing, Trust Me

From beards to shoes to beaches, my Instagram stalking trajectory has been both complex and cerebral at the best of times. I think I’ve finally settled on a last obsession, however. Cake. (Or, to paraphrase Rihanna, cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake). There are so many talented bakers out there – Sydney seems to be a particular hub – but here are the top 12 that are giving me scrolling RSI. And I don’t even mind.

Un-Birthday Bakery

Look at this beautiful beast below. Just LOOK AT IT. Popcorn, gold leaf, bits of Twix bar, iced gems, petals, flowers, hundreds and thousands… This must be what happiness looks like.

Katherine Sabbath

Like the above, Katherine’s also based in Sydney and describes herself as a ‘dessert creative’. Possibly the best job title in the world, no? Also: I would live in her fridge.

Lily Vanilli

An established name on the cake scene, Lily Vanilli has been making me fatter but happier since 2008. I’ll no doubt be poorly attempting to make these glittery cherry cupcakes at some point in the near future.

California Donuts

From Fruity Pebbles to m&m’s and dried fruit, you name it and California Donuts have shoved it on one of their joyous confections and sent it out into the world to make all our lives better.

Drake On Cake

The internet melted when it got wind of New Orleans-based @joythebaker’s offshoot Instagram account, Drake On Cake. Simply, she pops his lyrical stylings onto baked goods and we all go nuts. Understandably.

Studio DIY

A little ray of sunshine pon de internet, LA’s Kelly Mindell makes cushions and costumes alongside sweet treats, and she deserves recognition just for the fact that she’s managed to combine two of my favourite things: breakfast, and cake.

Fondant Fox

Working out of East London, Carla Fox’s creations are witty and pretty and eye-poppingly beautiful all at the same time. Round of applause for these killer strawberries below, please.

Fluffegram

Again, based in Sydney (maybe there’s something in the water out there), Nathan makes candy-coloured fairy floss and fashions it into fantasy desserts. Unicorn Poop Macaron, anyone?

Vicky’s Doughnuts

Anyone who shoves a cocktail umbrella in a doughnut and calls it a party is a-ok in my book. Vicky’s East London Donutterie has not only done that, but also pizza slice-shaped versions and the ultra-pretty pastel ones below.

Cakes by Cliff

“Sydney office worker by day, cake decorator by night.” Cliff, you not only make my mouth water, but you make me wonder what I would choose if I were to begin moonlighting.

The Purple Cupcake

Who knows if I would eat it if actually ever faced with one of The Purple Cupcake’s mini masterpieces. I might just stare at it for hours instead.

Bakedown Cakery

Best name ever, right? Also in Sydney, also responsible for half of the fancy-pants cakes on the internet, Bakedown Cakery’s Jen describes herself as a ‘merriment maker’. How can you not fall for that?

Rainbow Brite

While all you crazies were nursing hangovers on New Year’s Day, I was busily getting my Stepford on making THIS little kaleidoscopic dream. It’s a bit rough round the edges but be assured that the taste made up for it. It also took about 4 hours and my brother asked me if I had baking dyslexia. Don’t care. I’m awesome.

May your 2013 be just as colourful as my culinary masterpiece, although perhaps a little less mangled.

The Lazy-slash-ill Girl’s Guide To Blogging Part 4

My little blog needs a good dose of CPR. I’m starting this today with a quite possibly overwhelming amount of arbitrary BlackBerry pics taken over the past few months…

Mystery get well soon flowers. This has never happened to me before. Ever.
Street styled at Stockholm Fashion Week in August! Thanks to the lovely team at Varg PR for taking me :)
I sometimes lament that I will never be the sort of girl who could pull off Jeremy Scott’s special brand of 90s amazingness. This JS x Adidas Originals cage tracksuit top is one of the many reasons. Paging Riri…
Yes, that is a Christmas tree made from Laduree macarons that was sent in to the office. Pure joy.
Sophia Webster’s SS13 presentation at LFW. Life-size Barbies! I nearly passed out with happiness, as you can imagine.
My cousin’s 40th – a live swing band and an inordinate amount of food. If I look happy, it’s because I was drunk. If my brother looks unhappy, it’s because I was drunk. Good times.
Me and Rebecca from Browns at the Filippa K show in Stockholm. Fashion is a very serious business, you know.
I bought Ghostwatch on DVD for Halloween…if you don’t know, you better get to know. That’s all I’m saying.
Back to the motherland for some much-needed sun. Note to self: must get some mirrored sunglasses asap – how cool are my cousin Jo’s?
The fam.
The lobster roll at Scott’s. Not as good as Burger & Lobster but amazing desserts.
A little tea party on the outskirts of the Mayla runway in Stockholm. Very civilised – why don’t they do this in London?!
1st night holiday cocktails. Best feeling ever!
SFW buddies – Mademoiselle Robot, Tove from Varg and Victoria from InStyle
Lunch by the beach. Sigh.
Chanello.
Sunny brunch in Wimbledon village.
…followed by flower-buying and car-stalking.
Sticker Fashionista. I will never tire of this. Never.
Mawi’s new clutch bags – GIMME.
Nasir Mazhar’s SS13 LFW offering. This is the kind of ghetto I imagine I’m from when I tell people I’m from Croydon. Blad.
The Blondes. Nothing better than a 4 hour Saturday lunch with your mates, is there?
OH HAI back, Bee’s Bakery. These bad boys were delivered to the office and devoured in a heartbeat. You can personalise your own, too…
One of my oldest friends Mikey at his wedding a few weeks ago. Doesn’t he look handsome?
*wails* IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME!
Not really.
Love a good photobombing.
The amazing neon sign at the Adidas press day. Was rather miffed when I found out it wasn’t in my goodie bag.
More Jeremy Scott x Adidas goodness.
So, yeah, these were meant for Olivia Palermo but they were too small so French Sole gave them to me. No big deal.
The burger at Gaucho. The brioche bun kills me every time.
MORE neon (you can never have enough) – this time at Crazy Horse. Which, by the by, was awesome. Think this piece is by Chris Bracey…
Celine bag, Rodarte sweatshirt…I’m smiling next to Rebecca but it’s all lies. 30 seconds later I mugged her.
Mwah macarons
Brownies on a tray made of marshmallows. DREAMS DO COME TRUE!

I promise not to leave you for so long next time. xxx
