We've already established that my mum is a legend. One of many reasons is the phenomenal cakes that she made for me every birthday growing up. And with the 5th anniversary of my 21st birthday rapidly approaching (*ahem* tomorrow), this is the best time to do a little retrospective of said kick-ass cakes.



I perfected the smug look from an early age.


It's no wonder I demand theatrics from my food now...I'm off to the Fat Duck on Saturday and will report back with pictures of Heston's finest!

these cakes are amazing! my mom used to make elaborate cakes like this too. i think my 3rd birthday was a blue cookie monster one... yum.

Happy Birthday! My best friend's mum used to make cakes like this and her birthday was the day after mine so we'd often have a huge one to share, I remember a pink glittery castle really well!

Ha ha, my Dad used to excel in theatrical cake decoration - my fave was an Indian elephant, age 10 - I'll try n dig out a pic!
